Things to know about scat

Infections

While piss is usually sterile, shit contains bacteria and other organisms including viruses and fungi. Someone's shit can carry bugs like E. coli, salmonella, hepatitis A, sexually transmitted infections (such as gonorrhoea) or gut infections or parasites. These might not cause symptoms for the carrier but some can cause severe illness when another person picks them up, especially if they have a weakened immune system.

Shit might sometimes also have blood on or in it as the arse might be bleeding, there could be bloody haemorrhoids and so on. So if it's eaten or comes into contact with cut skin, there could be a risk that HIV or hepatitis C is passed on. Blood on shit should be checked out by a doctor as it can be a symptom of a serious condition.

See the section on Rimming for more details of infections spread in shit.

More on risk

Smearing shit onto unbroken skin has little risk to health if neither man has any infections, and as long as hands and under fingernails are thoroughly scrubbed afterwards with disinfectant soap.

Shit on broken skin allows any germ a direct way into the bloodstream.

Poo in the mouth carries the main health risk. This can happen without knowing; tiny amounts of shit can stay on the hands, under nails and so on after scat play, then later get into the mouth.

Hepatitis A vaccination is strongly recommended for men into scat.
