Things to know about sex toys

Inserting objects into an arse needs lots of lubricant.

As a vibrator (or similar shaped objects) doesn't have a flared base, care should be taken not to push it in so far that the whole thing slips inside.

Using a silicone lubricant with a sex toy made of silicone will damage it; water-based lube's needed.

Rubber or silicone love eggs/anal beads are best as plastic ones may have a rough seam around them.

Alternatives

Things with sharp edges or pointed ends can tear the lining of an arse.

Avoid objects with removable bits or caps as they can come off and be hard to get out.

Wooden objects (such as truncheons, broom handles and baseball bats) can leave splinters in the arse. Covering with a condom reduces this risk.

With bottles, light bulbs etc the glass can shatter. An open bottle creates a vacuum, with suction making it hard or impossible to remove from inside the body.

Vegetables such as carrots, cucumbers and courgettes need washing to remove germs in soil such as tetanus. Covering with a condom prevents irritation.

Infections

Using a sex toy on one person then on another without cleaning it can spread infections. Covering with a fresh condom each time a toy goes from one person to another gets over this risk.

Dried blood can still spread some infections (like hepatitis B or C) up to a week or so later, so wash toys between sessions using warm water and (preferably antibacterial) soap or a solution of one part bleach to 10 parts water. Rinse well to wash away any traces of bleach.

Pumps

Vacuum pumps can be battery-run or manual. The effect lasts around 20 minutes.

Men are advised not to pump for more than 15 minutes at a time. Bruising or tiny blood blisters are common and there's risk of permanent damage from prolonged vacuum pumping.

Something stuck up the arse?

Panicking just makes arse muscles clench tighter. Take your time, get lots of lube up there to ease its way out and then squat and push down as if you were shitting. Sniffing poppers might help relax the arse muscles.

If it's still in there an hour later get to a hospital Accident & Emergency department. Try not to be too embarrassed - they'll have seen this before.

Bleeding

Any bleeding that hasn't stopped within an hour of arse play is also a signal to get medical help fast.
